Education & Story
Tara Harwell graduated with her Master’s in Music Therapy at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. Her main instruments are voice and piano. She graduated Cum Laude from Texas Wesleyan University with her Bachelor’s in Music Education in 2012. While attending Texas Wesleyan, Tara was actively involved in multiple choirs, opera productions, and the national music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota (President in 2010-2011). Additional performing credits include being a dancer and chorus member for the outdoor musical drama, TEXAS, in Palo Duro Canyon, TX (Summers 2009 and 2010). In 2008, Tara completed the Walt Disney World Resort College Program in Orlando, FL as a character performer. Since then, she has been teaching private piano and voice lessons for over five years. But it was music therapy that truly touched her life and sparked a passion she knew she had to pursue.
“From the moment I first observed a music therapy session, I knew it was my calling in life. Seeing the clients light up when we sing their favorite songs or play new, interesting instruments makes my day. The best part about it is knowing how the music is helping with their daily lives, promoting health, cognitive skills, language skills, and so much more. It is truly a joy to be in a field that allows me to incorporate my passion for music and helping others.”
